Introduction

Books   |   Films

This is a site specific to information on being queer and Chicano/a or Latino/a. I use queer as an umbrella term to include those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ). I use transgender as an umbrella term for anyone who defies gender norms. This includes, but is not limited, to the following: transsexual, MTF (male to female), FTM (female to male), drag king, drag queen, intersexed, hermaphrodite, cross-dresser, transvestite, male-identified female, female-identified male, gender blender, gender bender, gender outlaw, gender queer, masher, impersonator, gender variant, gender dysphoric, transman, transwoman, eunuch, boi, butch, femme, etc. For definitions of some of these, go to Terminology.

Finding queer resources and often times Chicano/a or Latino/a resources on the internet that are useful can sometimes be tedious. Attempting to find information on the national level that is specifically queer and Latino/Chicano is not an easy task. Therefore, the information contained on this site will contain primarily sites catering to queer Chicanos/as and Latinos/as, or in some cases queers of color. The only section that will contain any "mainstream" queer resources, i.e. not specifically for queers of color, will be the organizations section. This is due to the fact that there is a necessity for bisexual, transgender and legal resources within the queer community, regardless of race, because they are scarce in general. And unfortunately there are few trans, bi and legal organizations that are specifically for Chicano/a or Latino/a or queers of color.

In formatting this site, I have decided to separate each page by the resources (see side navigation bar), rather than the groups listed above, to avoid further separating the queer community. Some sections, due to the large number of resources available, will then be divided, on that same page, as queer (for general GLBTQQ resources), and then by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered, assuming there are resources available for each.

This site is by no means complete, and I look forward to hearing of any additional sites that could prove useful to the Chicano/a or Latino/a queer community. Happy searching.
